This resource is a PDF file that can be printed and made into a packet for each of your students. An answer key and teaching tips are included for you, along with examples and specific directions for what to do on each page.

You'll also receive a link to a Google Slides show that includes 13 hand-picked, teacher-previewed Youtube video clips (most are about 1-3 min- perfect for little attention spans) that go along with the lessons. It's one of my favorite ways to conclude the day's lesson and build more real-life connections for kids about what we've learned.

I like to work through the packet by doing one page a day together. Each page poses a question for kids that they'll answer. Check out the preview for a complete look at the table of contents and details about each page:

Where does wood come from?
What is made of wood?
What happens when wood gets wet?
How can you sink wood?
How many paperclips does it take to sink wood?
How can you change the shape of wood?
How are sawdust and shavings different and the same?
How is particleboard made?
How is plywood made?
What is made of paper?
Can you draw on all papers?
Do all papers fold easily?
What happens when paper gets wet?
How can new paper be made from old?

By the end of the 2 weeks, your little learners will feel like wood and paper experts and have such a cool keepsake of all their learning in the journal they created!

If you teach FOSS science, this will go perfectly with your unit and be an incredible resource for you. If you don't teach FOSS science, please note the actual lessons are not included here... but maybe some of the pages would compliment the lessons you're teaching if they're also about wood and paper. Check out the preview for a good look at the pages.

If you like this concept (the packets and video links), I also have science units about trees, fabric, and animals 2x2 as well as similar packets about 10 different zoo animals (they are jam-packed with fascinating info and have a strong emphasis on giving kids authentic opportunities to practice their literacy skills) - check them out! HERE: Zoo Animal Research Bundle!
